My Journey Continues...  My life is a long round-about trip, and continues its twists and turns with each decision I make.  This blog is to help keep everyone updated in the next steps on my ever-changing path.

A couple of years ago, I found myself in the position of having to return to work - after many years as a stay-at-home mom.  I applied to my local school district, and signed on as a day to day substitute teacher for Kindergarten through sixth graders.  And found I loved being with kids again.

With Connor off to Switzerland working on his Masters in International Relations at the University of Geneva, and Aaron leaving next month for a language school in Japan, it's been a while since I have had daily contact with young people.  I've missed it, and being in a classroom with 20-30 students is wonderful.

By the time I had worked a year, I knew I wanted to return to school to get certified - yes - even at my age!  So in the summer of 2010, I enrolled at a local university, and began my Masters in Elementary Education, which came with certification.

This last fall I did my student teaching at an elementary school five minutes from my house, and spent 8 weeks in third grade, and 8 more in sixth grade.  What an experience!  I loved every minute!  I had fulfilled all the certification requirements by Christmas, and the only thing left is the Thesis, which I'm working on now.  I will graduate in May.

Now the excitement begins.  Over the next few months, I plan to finish my thesis, sell my house and all my household goods, graduate from college, and head west.

My mother and I, for years, have talked about "someday" getting a house together. So I'm heading her direction in order to find employment in the hallowed halls of an elementary school.  Where?  I don't know yet.  What town?  Don't know.  State?  Not sure of that either.  But from the beginning of this journey into "teacherhood," I have felt the Lord leading me on the path. And going out to share a place with my Mom is a part of the plan.

So where it will lead, I'm not sure.  But the Bible tells me that God has a plan for me.  And I believe that.  So I'm taking the steps I need to, and on faith, following His path.  I have so many friends who care, and I thought this would be the best way to keep everyone informed about what's next.

So thanks for reading.  Come back again, and check it out as My Journey Continues...

  1. Hi Nina,
I'm in! I'll add you to my blog list and follow your journey. I too have a blog that I started when I retired and moved to Pittsburgh. It tends to be an assortment of observations and experiences that came as a result of being an empty-nester. If you are interested it is http://viewfromanemptynest-connie.blogspot.com/
Good luck with this. I hope you find it as rewarding as I will interesting.
